Here are five global facts about women to get you thinking:
- Females in developing countries on average carry 20 litres of water over six kilometres every day.
- Four in 10 births worldwide are not attended by a doctor or health professional.
- Only 21 per cent of all news subjects (people interviewed or whom the news is about) are female.
- Women do two-thirds of the world's work but receive only 10 per cent of the world's income.
- Although women make up 51 per cent of the world's population, they hold only 16 per cent of parliamentary and congressional seats worldwide.
